Is '09 lineman solid to Tech?

Class of 2009 defensive tackle David Wang didn't waste much time in committing to Virginia Tech just after the Hokies offered him a scholarship. Wang has the potential to play on either side of the ball at the next level and is likely one of Virginia's top recruits in that class. Is Wang intent on honoring his early verbal commitment to the Hokies or is there a chance he may be open to other schools?

It would seem that Wang, who verbally committed to the Hokies on the first day coaches were permitted to offer scholarships to junior prospects, is as much a lock to stay the course as you will find in the Class of 2009. His brother, Ed Davis, is a current Hokie and he is very familiar with the Virginia Tech program. What are the chances other schools could sway him over time?

"Virginia Tech was the only school to really seriously send me mail and seriously recruit me," Wang said. "There were plenty of other schools that sent me several letters just asking how I was doing or how the season is going, but Tech definitely recruited me the hardest.

"I'm committed to Virginia Tech so right now they're the favorite. I really like their winning tradition and how the coaches interact with the players, but right now I'm also up for any schools that would want to get involved."

Those schools would obviously face an uphill battle, as Wang will remain very close with the program and football team over the next two seasons. He declined to mention which schools had contacted him but did re-iterate that others had sent mail.

At this point it appears as though the Hokies landed a good one who has an even better upside. The 6-foot-1, 297 pound tackle from Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge has good footwork and is excellent at driving opponents off the line of scrimmage.

Wang currently starts on defense but also sees time on the offensive line. Stone Bridge is 1-1 on the season and hopes to bounce back from a tough loss last Friday.
