Top Ten Tiders


Each Monday, BamaOnline's Matt Scalici lists his top 10 Tide performers. In effect, the list serves as a week-to-week ranking of Alabama's most valuable players.

1. DJ Hall Last Week: NR
Led the team in 2006 with 62 catches for 1056 yards and 5 touchdowns. Set a new single-season school record for receiving yards and moved into third place all-time in career catches and receiving yards. Led the SEC in receptions per game (6.8).

2. Simeon Castille Last Week: 2
Led the team with 6 interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Finished fourth on the team with 71 tackles including 44 solo. Recorded six pass breakups and earned First Team All-SEC honors from both the Coaches and the AP.
3. Terry Grant Last Week: 7
Led the team with 6 interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Finished fourth on the team with 71 tackles including 44 solo. Recorded six pass breakups and earned First Team All-SEC honors from both the Coaches and the AP.

4. Antoine Caldwell Last Week: 3
Started all 13 games at center and was second on the team with 58 knockdowns during the regular season. Has started 25 consecutive games for the Tide on the offensive line.

5. Andre Smith Last Week: 4
Started all 13 games last season as a true freshman and led the team with 62 knockdowns during the regular season. Scored his first touchdown on a two-yard run in the Independence Bowl.

6. John Parker Wilson Last Week: 5
Completed 216-of-379 passes for 2,707 yards (school record) with 17 touchdowns (school record) and 10 interceptions. Figures to break his own school records in 2007.

7. Javier Arenas Last Week: 8
Lead the defensive line with 43 tackles including 22 solo. Recorded 10.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and 10 hurries. One of the most vocal leaders on the defensive side of the ball.

8. Wallace Gilberry Last Week: 6
Lead the defensive line with 43 tackles including 22 solo. Recorded 10.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and 10 hurries. One of the most vocal leaders on the defensive side of the ball.

9. Jimmy Johns Last Week: NR
After playing a few snaps in 2006, Grant earned a medical redshirt. Impressed coaches from day one with his breakaway speed and hard-running style.

10. Rolando McClain Last Week: NR
Top kick and punt returner for the Tide in 2006. Averaged 19.1 yards on kickoffs and 9.2 yards on punts with 2 punt returns for touchdowns. Enters 2007 as the top return specialist for the Tide once again.
