In-state receiver visits Iowa City

Oskaloosa wide receiver Steven Staggs was in Iowa City on Saturday to watch the Hawkeyes in their open practice at Kinnick Stadium. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Staggs, who is still receiving a lot of interest from the Iowa coaching staff, had a chance to sit in on the wide receivers meeting with Coach Erb and get an up-close look at the scrimmage.

The two-star prospect also had a chance to catch up with former Oskaloosa teammate Tyler Sash, now a freshman safety for the Hawkeyes.

After a broken leg wiped out most of his junior season, Staggs hit the camp circuit this summer to prove himself, making stops at Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, and Nebraska. He also attended a couple combines, where he ran as fast as 4.43 in the forty, and has had steady interest from colleges ever since. Many, including Iowa, want to see the first few games of his senior year at Oskaloosa before making a decision on whether or not to offer.

Staggs plans to return to Iowa City on September 8 to watch the Hawkeyes play Syracuse and will also see Iowa play the following week in Ames as a visitor to Iowa State. The in-state schools are not the only ones showing interest, however, as contact has picked up from Purdue and Missouri, among others.

Rivals.com ranks Staggs as the No. 7 top prospect in the state of Iowa this year.
