Running by the code

…know what to do
…not EVER pass up a legal football hit
…care about my teammates

This is the code Baylor running backs coach Cornell Jackson has instilled in his backs as they work toward the start of the 2007 football season.

It is a simple code, nothing too hard to remember, and strong on team unity and work ethic. However, Jackson is quick to point out there is nothing in there about athleticism because "if they didn't have athletic ability, they wouldn't be here."

After last fall's output of 40.17 rushing yards per game, the running game and running backs caught a lot of heat and rightfully so. While he knows there are doubters coming into 2007, Jackson has confidence his backs can get the job done.

"Everyone knows how we were running the ball last year. That's documented," he said. "The thing that we've got to do this year, we've just got to put the ball in their hands. We've just got to put the ball in their hands and we've got to block up front. If we do that, they'll come along."

And the backs know when they get their chance they have to make it count.
