Defense bounces back in Sunday practice
The first two practices of the 2007 Fall Camp were both highlighted by very impressive performances by Arizona's offense. Saturday's practiced was closed, but the players wore shells on Sunday so things were a little bit more physical, and the defense took advantage.
While the whole defense had its moments, the linebackers stole the show. Spencer Larsen, Xavier Kelley and Ronnie Palmer all had picks, but they were also in the right place at the right time all night, stopping runs and defending and breaking up passes.
The defensive line and the offensive line battled all night long, with no side having a real advantage, but Johnathan Turner did end up with a sack towards the end of practice.
Arizona's coaches experimented with several different defensive line foursomes throughout 11-on-11's. A good percentage of the defensive tackles on the team saw playing time, while Louis Holmes, Turner, D'Aundre Reed and Ricky Elmore are getting the most practice at defensive end.
Holmes' battles with offensive tackle Eben Britton continue to entertain, and unless it's Britton going against Holmes one-on-one, it often takes more than one person to stop the senior defensive end.
