Is Will Hill ready?
Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep athlete Will Hill has been the subject of numerous rumors since his unofficial visit to Florida for the Gators Friday Night Lights this past weekend. So what's the truth about the 6-foot-3, 203-pounder?
"I've been getting a ton of phone calls about Will obviously," said St. Peter's head coach Rich Hansen, who was our keynote speaker at the 2007 Rivals.com New Jersey Junior Day this past April. "It's no different than any other time I guess, but his visit this weekend has drawn quite a bit of attention."
Numerous rumors have been floating around about Hill since that visit. Some said he committed, others said he will commit as soon as his mom sees the campus and still others think he's still going to take all of his official visits. So which is true?
"Well, none of them are really true but some aren't far off," said Hansen. "He didn't commit though, but he and his father loved it down there. It was good that Will went with his dad so they could both see it because his father is a big part of the equation.
"I'm not sure if he'll commit when his mom sees it or if she has to see if before he makes a decision. His dad told Urban Meyer that on a scale of 1-100 this visit was a 98. He said the other two percent break down like this...1 percent his mom and 1 percent me.
"As for my input, I'm not going to tell a kid not to date Halle Berry and that's what it would be like telling him not to go to Florida. I just want to make sure that if he does commit before taking any official visits that he is going to shut thing down to other schools. If he commits, he's committed. Otherwise there's no point in committing.
"I told him already that the best visit he'll ever take is the last one he takes. I knew before he went down there that he'd love it but an unofficial visit is different than an official. But they were really blown away by it all and it's obviously a great progam. Steve Addazio, Urban and Doc Holliday have done a great job with Will and his family."
According to coach Hansen, Will's father told coach Meyer than the Gators were the team to beat. Others on the list include Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers, Southern Cal and Virginia. The next step for the five-star from Jersey is to determine if he wants to take official visits or end the process.
"I told him to sleep on it for a few days, see how it feels later this week," said coach Hansen. "I just want him to feel good about his decision and feel that he picked his dream school. Will has so many options that there's no reason for him not to pick the school that has everything he wants. After Friday, it seems that Florida has everything but we'll see where things stand in a few more days and take it from there."
