Pain free, Magazu ready to compete
After throwing for over 3,000 yards in his high school career, Anthony Magazu had high hopes for his future at Kent State. He redshirted as a freshman in 2005 and looked forward to competing for playing time as a sophomore in 2006.
The opportunity to compete last fall never materialized as the 6-foot-3, 185-pounder suffered through back pain that eventually required season-ending surgery.
"It started hurting when I was weight lifting and I thought it was a muscle at first," said Magazu. "I went home and got an MRI and found out it was a disk. I tried to practice through the season but it just kept getting worse so I decided to have surgery."
Magazu spent the next several months working out to condition his back for the start of spring workouts, which began last week.
"Coming off surgery and the modified workout I'm doing right now really got my back stronger and now I feel good as new," he said. "My arm strength, I feel like that's better and I don't even think about my back anymore."
