Tech hits the turf at Jones AT&T for workout #2
STRENGTH IS SAFETY
The strength of the Red Raider defense for the upcoming season will undoubtedly rely at the safety position. With both safeties, strong safety senior Joe Garcia and free safety junior Darcel McBath both returning to their starting positions, they both admit their confidence level is higher than ever.
"I think once you start playing, the more game experience you get the better you are going to be," explained the 6-foot-1, 196-pound McBath. "Since Joe and I started every game last year I think that has definitely made us better. As a unit when we're out on the field I know that he's going to be when I need him to be and it's all smooth."
The relationship between the two has had an opportunity to blossom and McBath says that it shows on the field.
"Joe is my big bro. I think the first few games of last year we were kind of feeling each other out and knowing where each other were going to be, but now I know which hole Joe is going to hit and where I need to be because of that."
Being the only returning starting duo on Tech defensive side, the two upperclassman are being looked to for their leadership and knowledge.
"It's a big responsibility I think," admitted the 6-foot-1 215-pound Garcia. "I feel that I just have to have fun and be enthused out there and that will help everyone else to have fun, too."
Opposing offenses should think twice next season before throwing deep into the Tech backfield, as Garcia and McBath will be waiting to be tested.
"I feel that we'll get the job done. We did it all 13 games last year and I can't wait till game one."
