Sun Devils in serious contention for Carswell?

Milpitas (Calif.) Milpitas High School wide receiver prospect Brandon Carswell has been rumored to favor two home-state schools for some time now. USC and California have both been high on Carswell's list, and it appeared that a decision was imminent.

Have things changed?

"Well I had taken two trips already to Cal and USC," Carswell said. "I definitely liked both of them."

It appeared to that those might be the only two visits that Carswell would take on the season, which would have all but effectively eliminated Arizona State and Oregon from contention for his signature in February.

However, new Sun Devil Coach Dennis Erickson has already been in contact with the 6-foot-1, 172 pound athlete who is ranked as the 43rd prospect in the very talented state of California.

"Oh yeah I've talked to him (Erickson)," Carswell said. "I had an offer from him at Idaho so I had been in contact with him before. We talked about how he really wants me to come in play right away. To be honest, it would have been a stretch for me at Idaho because of the season they had this year, but now he tells me that we'll have a legitimate chance to make a big impact (in the Pac-10)."

Although Carswell projects to play wide receiver at the collegiate level, he played quarterback this season and put up incredible individual statistics while leading the team to a great year.

"The season was very good," Carswell said. "We won the championship in our high division. I also played well, for the year I had 1,400 yards passing, and 1,500 yards rushing."

With two visits down, does Carswell have any plans of making additional trips before committing?

"I'm actually really hoping to make it down to ASU January 4th and 5th," Carswell said. "So, hopefully I'll be able to just that."

While it once seemed like a decision could come at any day, Arizona State's recent contact seems to have changed those initial plans.

"I'm planning on making my official decision on signing day," Carswell said. "I'll probably have my mind made up before then, but I won't make it public until February 7th."

It appears that Erickson and the staff that he has put into place, have made up some quick ground in Carswell's recruitment.

"I don't have any favorites as of right now," Carswell said. "I just want to let everything come and I know that in the end I'll pick the right school."
