Peterson's final time on top?
The Sooners put in a workman-like performance in their 34-9 dismantling of typically high powered Iowa State. So why is it that Sooner fans are so down? All one needs to do is check the No. 1 spot in this week's Hot 11 to understand.
1. Adrian Peterson, Running Back - Stats: 26 carries, 183 yards, Two Touchdowns, 3 catches, 45 yards
Analysis: No one has held more top spots in the Hot 11 than the jaw-dropping junior from Palestine, Texas but this may be his final time at the top, heck it may be his final opportunity. His father's first chance to see his son play in person in nearly a decade was a memorable one with Peterson's first and last runs being his two longest of the day. The 53-yard touchdown run that may have been his final carry in Crimson Cream was the only fitting way to end such an amazing career.
2.Darien Williams, Free Safety - Stats: Nine tackles (seven solo), two sacks, one interception, and one quarterback hurry
Analysis: Who is this guy, and what did he do with Darien Williams? Take Williams' best three games -anyone? Anyone?- roll them into one
and he made more plays against the Cyclones. He was simply all over the field and doing exactly what a free safety needs to do. He stepped in front of a pass, he was a sure tackler as the last line of defense and even put in an amazing effort near the line of scrimmage for a guy who is one of the smallest on the Sooner roster.
3. Malcolm Kelly, Wide Receiver - Stats: Four catches, 50 yards, two touchdowns
Analysis: If Oklahoma had wanted to keep throwing in the second half, we're talking about yet another 100-yard performance from Kelly. If there wasn't a holding call on the Sooners first possession, we're talking about a 100-yard day for Kelly. However, at the end of the day Kelly showed more than stats. Coming back for the ball on his first touchdown shows an understanding that is beginning to exceed what most would have expect of a sophomore. He's become an automatic threat for the Sooners in recent weeks.
