Sharp looks good, receivers step up

Door of opportunity opens

When you have been around Big 12 football as long as Mark Mangino has you understand that injuries are a part of the game.

The Jayhawks were missing James Holt, Darrell Stuckey, Jerome Kemp, Angus Quigley, and Eric Washington at practice. Plus Joe Mortensen didn't return to action later in the practice, but there was no information brought up on his absence.

But Mangino believes you have to move on with what you have and others have to step up.

"Injuries are a part of the game," Mangino said. "The way I look at injuries is when one door closes another one opens. It is an opportunity for another player to shine and that's the way we have always gone about it here."


Receivers step up

When Jayhawk Slant ran our most recent position update on the receivers, Tim Beck felt he had a good number of players that could emerge.

It turns out he was right.

One group Mangino singled out after practice was the receivers. He has been impressed with the progress they have made.
