Monday practice report (PM)
To an optimist, Monday afternoon's "varsity" practice was great for both the offensive and defensive lines. The pessimist would say both were shaky.
Both sides looked great at times and completely overmatched other times. The O-line completely dominated the D-line during one-on-one pass blocking drills. Statistically speaking, they won 16 of 20 one-on-one match-ups, including no less than three complete pancake blocks.
Particularly impressive was redshirt sophomore guard Jeff Byers, who first dominated Sedrick Ellis, and then embarrassed Averell Spicer with consecutive pancakes of the redshirt freshman.
Unfortunately for Byers the tides turned when the team gathered for the 11-on-11 drills, where the defense recorded at least one sack every series of downs, and seemed to always be in the quarterback's face. The running joke on the sideline was that it was easier to keep track of who didn't have a sack.
