Sapp makes the grade
When Bamberg-Ehrhardt defensive lineman Ricky Sapp verbally committed to Clemson last summer, almost immediately he endured criticism on Internet message boards from fans of rival programs, as chants discrediting his ability to qualify academically were commonplace.
But on Memorial Day, the former five-star rated pass-rushing deluxe, who spurned more than 40 scholarship offers last year, had the last laugh, as he closed his senior year with the necessary test score and GPA match to qualify academically for enrollment at Clemson this summer. Sapp finished his final year in the prep ranks with a 2.71 core GPA and an 800 SAT.
"Ricky worked extremely hard. He has been very committed in the classroom this past semester in particular, he has gone to tutoring sessions, and he has made it. We're all awfully proud of him," Bamberg-Ehrhardt head football coach Ron Duncan told Tigerillustrated.com in a Memorial Day interview.
