Sunshine State DT picks up Alabama offer
Longwood, Fla., Lyman High School defensive lineman Ian Williams is becoming a hot commodity in the Sunshine State, and as his list of offers continues to grow so does his national reputation.
Last week, Williams, 6-fooot-1, 300-pounds, picked up four new offers after college coaches watched him in practice — and Alabama was one of the four.
"Everything really happened fast with Alabama. I didn't think they knew I existed until last week when Coach (Chris) Ball came up to the school. But apparently he had heard about me," Williams said. "He came and watched me practice for a few hours and I guess I impressed him because he went and told my head coach that I have an offer on the spot.
"I was pretty excited because Alabama is a big-time program and it shows that my hard work is paying off. Also, Coach (Mike) Shula is from the state of Florida and he's done a great job at Alabama. He's building a good program. They are up-and-coming and they are going to keep winning.
"They had a good defense last year and with me being a defensive guy that impresses me. They are a defensive school who has had some great defensive linemen."
