Welch's crew a talented pack of dawgs
COPPERAS COVE, Texas - Copperas Cove head coach Jack Welch knows talent and has seen plenty of it in his years at the helm of the Copperas Cove program. He has coached numerous college prospects and NFL talents such as T.J. Hollowell (Nebraska), Vontez Duff (Notre Dame), and Charles Tillman (UL-Lafayette).
Last fall Copperas Cove finished 13-1 with a 28-38 loss to Lufkin in the state quarterfinals. Following the season Tim Atchison and Donald Buckram signed Division I letters of intent with Baylor and UTEP, and in 2006 Copperas Cove has had the college coaches returning in mass.
Already this spring Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor, Duke, New Mexico State, and New Mexico are a few of the schools to stop by with several other Division II and III schools stopping by as well.
Even though Copperas Cove lost some very talented players Coach Welch has reason to be excited and college coaches have plenty of reasons to pay close attention.
