Bobo upbeat about UGA's QB situation
University of Georgia quarterback coach Mike Bobo was in Conyers, Ga., recently to speak to the local Bulldog Club. UGASports.com was on the scene to report what he had to say about the 2006 team in his lengthy opening remarks. After that, Bobo fielded questions from the many Dawg fans in attendance. Here is a transcript of the questions from the fans that cover a wide range of issues and Bobo's answers.
Question: Who do you project to be the starting quarterback by the sixth game of the season?
Bobo: "The best one. (Insert a chorus of laughter from the crowd). It is really not fair for me to say that right now. I am trying to be fair through this whole thing. I have a young guys there, and it would not be fair to say, 'Hey, you are not in it,' after just one spring. Spring practice, for a guy like Matthew Stafford, was a redshirt year. For Joe Cox it was his first time really getting reps with the offense and not the scout team. If you ask me that a week after (fall) camp, I think I will have an idea. Joe Tereshinski is right here (puts his hand up shoulder high), but these younger guys are right here (hand a little lower). They had a lot of experience this spring, but can they close the gap? Can they get closer to where he is and his knowledge of the system?
"They can not just show up in the fall and they are going to automatically going to get it. They are going to have to work, they have to study, and they have to be ready. If they don't, they are not going to play. I've got three triplets and one two year old, so I have mouths to feed (more laughter)."
