Recruiters find Coatesville defensive end
It is still early in the recruiting process but many college recruiters have already found Coatesville defensive end Derrick Morgan (6' 4" 260). So far Morgan has scholarship offers from Pittsburgh, Penn State, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Michigan State and West Virginia. It appears it won't be long before other schools join the list.
Morgan told the Pantherlair, "Virginia, Miami, Georgia Tech and Penn State have been out to my school this past week. Over the next week or so Syracuse Pittsburgh and Michigan are scheduled to come in."
Coach Tom Nichols at Coatesville told the Pantherlair, "Derrick has quickness and the ability to change directions. He runs well for a player his size and he is very smart. He carries a 3.8 GPA."
Morgan played both defensive and fullback for the Red Raiders last fall. I asked him if they allowed him to carry the ball. The big man laughed and said, "This was my first year playing offense but by the end of the year they allowed me to carry it 7 or 8 times a game. I am definitely being recruited to play defense." Morgan is being recruited as a defensive end but could easily grow into a defensive tackle.
Last year Coatesville finished 8-2 in the regular season, losing in the first round of the AAAA playoffs to North Penn.
Morgan was honored by being named all-conference as a junior. He was also a second team All-Southeastern Pa. selection by the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Morgan indicated a friend of his would be coaching at the Penn State summer camp so he may attend that camp. He is still nursing a hamstring injury and is unsure if he will attend the Nike Camp on May 6th at State College.
