Big visit weekends coming for Oregon
A year ago today Signing Day looked ruined. Chip Kelly had just bolted for the NFL, and the Oregon recruiting class hung in limbo as a group of fast, smart, talented kids reconsidered their options. The Robinson twins contemplated another round of visits. Thomas Tyner wavered. Texas phenom Dontre Wilson flirted and then succumbed to Ohio State. The Ducks were a few phone calls and a couple of faxes away from a class that would set the program back for years.
Instead, Mark Helfrich and staff put on a finishing kick to rival Steve Prefontaine in the glory days at Hayward, sprinting the bell lap across seven lanes in a magnificent finish, retaining Tyner and the Robinson twins while reeling in unexpected prizes like Cameron Hunt, Danny Mattingly and Torrodney Prevot.
