Blackshirts building confidence by the day

Winning and success can be contagious, and for Nebraska's defense the previous two weeks that's exactly what's happened.

After rough outings against Wyoming, UCLA and South Dakota State, slowly but surely this Blackshirt defense has started to take form.

To open Big Ten Conference play against Illinois NU's defense kept eight of the Illini's 12 drives under five plays, that either resulted in punts or turnovers. That was light years ahead of their season opening performance against Wyoming where they gave up 602 yards and a school record 34 first downs to the Cowboys.

The Huskers followed that performance up against Purdue where they completely dominated the Boilermakers and held them scoreless until the game's final 38 seconds. Most will tell you with a bye week after South Dakota State that's where the growth and development started. With another bye this week, Nebraska's players and coaches are hoping for similar growth.
