Weber a top target for State

The running back prospects in the Midwest for the class of 2015 might be the best in over a decade. Several prospects already have impressive lists of scholarship offers. One of those players is Mike Weber of Detroit Cass Tech High School. SpartanMag.com has the details on his recruitment.

Detroit Cass Tech is one of the top talent producing school in the nation and the class of 2015 looks to be very special. The 5-foot-10 205-pound Weber has seen his scholarship list expand throughout the year and he will almost certainly be a rivals 4-star and top 250 prospect. We spoke with Weber about his current list of suitors.

"I have offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Illinois and Syracuse, Weber said. "Notre Dame is also showing a lot of interest in me."

Weber was a key member of Cass Tech's championship team last fall. He came on strong as the season progressed and played his best football when the competition was the toughest. In the state title game last fall he rushed for 186-yards on 20 carries in the 36-21 win over Detroit Catholic Central.

Weber talked with us about his off-season training and his goals for the upcoming season.

"My off-season training has been going great. I have been working very hard and I have a good feeling about this year. I think my me and my teammates are capable of winning a 3rd ring. My personal goal is to rush for over 2000-yards and score 25 touchdowns while leading the team to another championship."

Michigan State has been one of the teams that has been actively recruiting Weber since last year when he burst on the scene as a force to be reckoned with. Earlier this week, Weber was in East Lansing for a recruiting event where prospects were able to watch practice and sit in on meetings nd interact with the players and coaches. We asked Weber about the visit.

"It went real good up there," he said. "I feel comfortable with the players and the coaches, they showed me a lot of love. What stood out to me was the whole organization up there at Michigan State and the people that are part of it."

Michigan State picked up a big commitment from Weber's teammate earlier this week when quarterback Jayru Campbell selected the Spartans. Campbell and Weber make up a dynamic combination for the Technicians. They allow Cass Tech to be very balanced and force teams to have to defense the pass and the run. We asked Weber what he is looking for in a college when it comes ti making a decision.

"I am going to go to the college that is the best fit for me as far as the depth chart, the history and the offensive style they have."

Weber is getting excited about starting practice next week. Cass Tech opens up against Southfield High Shool and their is is a lot of anticipation about the game. Playing big games early in the season is nothing new for Cass Tech as the last 2 years they have played perennial powerhouse programs Farmington Hills Harrison and Birmingham Brother Rice to open the season. Rivals.co, will have full coverage of that game. If the Blue Jays hope to knock off the defending state champs,. containing Weber will be a top priority. Many teams have tried, but few have had success.

Spartan,mag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Weber throughout the fall. The Spartan need to add top flight running back for the class of 2015 and Weber is plan A for coach Dantonio and his staff.
