Heels make strong early impression on Clark
Even though the UNC staff is in full force looking and picking up recruits for the year 2014, that doesn't mean that they haven't kept their eye on some talented players in the year 2015.
Lexington, Va. native, Austin Clark, is just one of those players that have been on the eyes of the coaches recently.
Now, coach Walt Bell and the UNC staff have made it official, as they have offered the OL Clark a scholarship to attend North Carolina.
Clark told Tarheelillustrated that he was offered last week, as Coach Bell has been the one recruiting him the most.
UNC has been highly impressed with Clark's film, along with his size and strength, coming in currently at 6'6" and 285 pounds in his sophomore season.
When asked about his thoughts on the offer, Clark replied "when UNC offered I was excited and felt honored. Coach Bell had stopped by the week before to talk to my head coach."
As of right now, it seems that Clark is very high on North Carolina, even though there have been multiple schools that have been showing interest in the young lineman.
Clark is only a sophomore and has a few years to decide, Clark said that UNC is definitely near the top of his list of schools he would like to go, but still wanted to keep his options open.
Schools such as Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Wake Forest have all shown interest in Clark, with Virginia being the only school right now to offer Clark, besides North Carolina.
Clark seems to be looking at multiple factors in his recruitment, something that he mentioned that North Carolina would be able to offer him.
"I think UNC has outstanding academics and a great football program. I like their high tempo offense."
He continued saying "academics is a big factor. I want to go somewhere that has good academics and a good football program."
It seems that Clark has planned some visits to Chapel Hill, as he informed TarHeelIllustrated that he will be attending as early as this summer.
"I'm planning on going to one of their camps and I plan on scheduling an unofficial visit for this summer."
Clark also mentioned that he will be attending a few other camps around the nation, however; wasn't specific into which ones they might be.
North Carolina will be looking to solidify their line with some quality players in the future, especially with key players leaving in the years.
Clark will be one of the key guys that UNC will keep an eye on in the future, as he continues to grow and develop in the coming years.
