Bulldogs remain undefeated at the Hump
STARKVILLE, Miss., - Humphrey Coliseum has been kind to Rick Ray so far this season.
Mississippi State's home floor has been the site of his only two wins so far this season. The first year Bulldogs head coach celebrated his second career victory Tuesday night 60-42 over Alcorn State.
"Hopefully it's the home court because I want guys to feel comfortable and feel good about playing in the Hump," Ray said. "But somehow we've got to translate that onto the road as well too."
MSU improved to 2-4 on the year snapping a three-game losing streak from the Maui Invitational last week. The Bulldogs shot 40.9-percent from the field led by freshmen guards Craig Sword and Fred Thomas with 14 points each.
Sword's total a high in his still young career shooting 4-of-8 from the floor and also added five steals.
"It was my best game since I've been here," Sword said. "I was playing calm and coach told me to just play calm and let the game come to me."
Thomas did not draw the start for the first time this season but added 25 minutes off the bench. Thomas missed all four of his 3-point attempts but made a conscious effort to get the ball closer to the basket and made five of his eight shots inside the arc.
