Cal head coach Jeff Tedford was fired on Tuesday, ending a rollercoaster career that saw him become the winningest coach in Golden Bears football history before ending a 10-year run with Cal's worst season since the 1-10 debacle that led to the dismissal of Tom Holmoe. He leaves open one of the most attractive coaching vacancies in the country, which's rumored to draw attention similar to that of the UCLA opening former Falcons head coach Jim Mora filled this year.



According to sources close to the team, the new hire will likely be comparable to the appointment of Mike Montgomery in basketball. The administration and alumni will be after a coach with enough experience and acumen to immediately turn around the program, but also a splashy name that will help sell those high-priced alumni section seats.
