Warfield talks Spartan visit

One of the top defensive back prospects on the board for the Michigan State Spartans is Solomon Warfield of Lakewood St. Edwards High School in Ohio. The 6-foot-0, 170-pound prospect was on campus yesterday for the Green and White Game.

A few weeks ago Warfield came up to Michigan State for an unofficial visit and was offered a scholarship by Head Coach Mark Dantonio. The offer to Warfield had a positive impact on his recruitment and he told SpartanMag.com the following:

"It was sweet," he said. "I did not think they were going to offer me until I came to camp this summer, but they did it early and that shows me that they really want me. I really like Michigan State. It has a beautiful campus and it is just a nice place to be. The coaches said they love the way I come up and hit on runs and how I cover the deep ball as well."

The Spartans invited Warfield back up for the Green and White Game and yesterday he was back in East Lansing getting to know some of the current commitments and building more rapport with the Michigan State coaches.

Warfield was able to spend some time with class of 2013 Spartans such as Jon Reschke, R.J. Shelton, Damion Terry and Gerald Holmes. We asked him about his time on campus on Saturday.

"It was great; I had a real good time." Warfield said. "I liked meeting with the guys that have committed and hanging with them. I can't say what my favorite part was because I enjoyed everything."

The visit to Michigan State definitely helped the Spartans chances of landing the Rivals.com 3-star prospect. Michigan State is only taking 2 players at Warfield's position so scholarship spots are at a premium.

Warfield has indicated that he does not have a set timetable as far as making a college decision, but he understands how the process works. Last year several players who wanted to become Spartans missed out on the opportunity due to other players beating then to the punch. That is one of the recruiting benefits you get when you are coming off back-to-back 11 win seasons and have a Head Coach who is not going anywhere.

SpartanMag.com will continue to keep in contact with Warfield in the coming weeks. It is obvious that he is a player that both Coach Dantonio and Coach Narduzzi would like to add to the commitment list for 2013.
