Little brother's turn
At 6-foot-3, 260 pounds and sporting an afro James Looney is similar to his older brother, former Wake Forest left guard Joe Looney.
The younger Looney's list of suitors is beginning to increase as he prepares for his senior season at Lake Worth (Fla.). He has been receiving interest from Boston College, Bowling Green, Clemson, Florida State, Marshall, Miami (Fla.), Minnesota, South Florida, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
"They've [Wake Forest] been sending me mail," Looney said. "They've been sending me a bunch of letters, and Coach Mac came down here one day to see me. I think they're [Boston College] going to offer me soon."
Despite enduring a disappointing 4-6 season Looney picked up scholarship offers from the Bulls, Falcons, Golden Gophers and Thundering Herd.
"The only school that I've visited is South Florida so far, and I've been down to Miami (Fla.) and Florida State to see a couple of games when Joe played for Wake," Looney said.
It is unlikely that Looney will make it to Wake Forest's Junior Day Saturday, Feb. 25.
"Wake is a good school," Looney said. "I like them a lot, but I haven't talked to their coaches in a long time."
Looney added that his style of play is similar to his brother's, except he plays center and defensive end. In limited action at defensive end last season he recorded four sacks.
He also saw time at his brother's spot, guard, and said that his quickness off the ball helps him pass and run-block well.
Looney plans to participate in the Nike Combine, and camp at Florida State and Miami (Fla.).
