Eagles are high on Taylor's list
TJ Taylor is still waiting for his first offer but he's generating a nice buzz on the recruiting scene.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound athlete from Monmouth Junction (N.J.) South Brunswick is being recruited by Boston College and most other schools as a wide receiver, though a couple of programs have said they would prefer him at safety.
As a junior the Garden State prospect hauled in 17 receptions for 406 yards and six touchdowns. On the other side of the ball he made 60 stops (52 solo) with an interception and eight pass deflections.
He recently attended the BC junior day and had plenty of positive things to say about what the Eagles showed him.
"It was real good," he recalled. "I really liked the campus. The coaches were enthusiastic about me being there. I talked to a couple of players and they really liked it. I like how we watched film and saw what it's like week to week for the BC players.
"I really like how (the school) is close to downtown Boston and the train is right by the campus. Everything went great."
It was Taylor's first trip to BC and his first experience in Boston. While there were plenty of other recruits in town the coaches made it a point to talk to Taylor.
"I was talking to the defensive coordinator and Coach Ryan Day, who is the recruiter for my area. I was sitting at his table and we were able to talk," he said.
After the visit the Eagles are sitting in a very strong position with the versatile athlete.
"I have a lot of interest in Boston College. I really like them. They're one of the schools at the top of my list. I really see them as being near the top."
Taylor has also attended a junior day in Rutgers, which was in December, and he took a trip to Maryland over the summer. He mentioned that he has also been to Penn State and he plans on hitting the road to check out more schools in the months ahead.
"I've been talking to a lot of coaches. Recently I was on the phone with a coach from Temple and they wanted me to get up to their junior day in May.
"One of the coaches from Buffalo just e-mailed me trying to get me up there. I'm really just trying to plan out the week ahead based on who's interested in me."
