Nicholas talks visit, Wheeler

Texas Tech quarterback commit Clayton Nicholasis the point man of the 2012 recruiting class. If he had a good time on his weekend visit, everyone had a good time on their weekend visit.

Fortunately, the Abilene (Texas) Cooper product had a good time.

"For the most part, what I enjoyed was just getting down there and being able to get to where I feel comfortable about what I'll be doing next year," Nicholas said. "I enjoyed hanging out with the guys I'll be hanging out with, and even rooming with. I was there with the roommates I'll be rooming with for the next four years.

"It was a good atmosphere for us all to be down there together in and just having a good time. It was good to see the coaches again and it was just good to be back at Texas Tech."

Normally official visit weekends match commits of the school with players that haven't yet decided where they want to go. The thought is the commits of the school along with the coaches can work on the uncommitted players through the visit.

This past weekend was different, however, because all of the players that visited Tech were already Red Raider commits and will almost certainly sign their Letters of Intent to the school Feb. 2.

"It was special for us and the coaches," Nicholas said. "The coaches didn't really have to pay more attention to anyone so there weren't any hurt feelings. It was good to have the chance to get comfortable with the players you're going to play with. I think everyone knows Dominique Wheeler kind of likes Baylor. But for the most part I think he'll be coming to Tech.

"It was a great weekend for all of us to be down there and just getting around each other like we will be for the next four or five years. It was a great weekend of brotherhood."

Nicholas is supposed to room with receiver Reginald Davis, athlete Keenon Ward and Wheeler beginning this summer.

"I'm pretty sure (Wheeler) has different conversations with everybody," Nicholas said. "He told our class this weekend that he's going to be a Red Raider and I'm pretty sure he's gone to the Baylor guys and told him he's going to be a Baylor guy. We'll find out two Wednesdays from now.

"That's a big day for all of us in this recruiting class and for every coach up there right now."

A good visit went a long way for Nicholas and Nicholas expects the visit went a long way in Wheeler's decision.

"On a scale of one to 10, it was a 10," Nicholas said. "It's always going to be a 10 whenever I'm down there. Jace Amaro, he took a leadership role with us and showed us the ropes. We had a good time because it's Lubbock and one of the most underrated college cities. Obviously, we were there to get business done and become better friends and I think we made that happen."
