Fresh off a 69-60 upset victory over No. 18 Texas A&M last night at Madison Square Garden, Mississippi State now has its sights set on claiming the 2K Sports Classic title.
But lying in the way is another ranked opponent in No. 15 Arizona, whom the Bulldogs play at 6 p.m. CST in the championship.
MSU has won 17 inseason tournament titles since 1955 but has not hoisted a trophy in one since 2000 when they upset Arizona 75-74 in the Bank One Fiesta Bowl Classic.
Today marks just the fourth ever meeting between the two programs on the hardwood. The Wildcats have a 2-1 edge in the series claiming their last meeting 68-64 in December of 2004.
State enters tonight's game with a 3-1 mark having won two straight. In ast night's victory over the Aggies, senior point guard Dee Bost poured in 20 points and never allowed Texas A&M to lead the entire game. The Bulldogs built a 22-point lead in the game's opening 10 minutes.
Mississippi State is shooting 41.1-percent from the field and averaging 70.8 points per game. The Bulldogs have knocked down 32-percent from the outside and made 67.7-percent from the charity stripe and are outrebounded their opponents by 8.3. Their opposition is shooting 43.7-percent against them and putting up 64.8 points.
