Running back likes what he sees at Purdue

North Carolina running back Jela Duncan made the first of what he expects will be five official visits over the weekend.

And he came away from Purdue liking what he saw, particularly due to the University's engineering school.

"I was impressed by the coaching staff, the people on campus and from the football players," said Duncan, a three-star back at Mallard Creek High School. "It was just a good environment to be in.

"The engineering program really stood out to be, because that's what I want to major in: architecture or engineering. I got to meet with some people (in academics) who told me that Purdue was the best place to go."

Duncan, a 3.5 student, is Rivals.com's 35th-best running back in the country, and the No. 19 overall in N.C. The 5-foot-10, 190-pounder has double-digit offers, including from Purdue, Duke, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Wake Forest.

But he's not ready to name favorites. Instead, Duncan says he'll try to make all his official visits, with the first being to Purdue.

"(Danny Hope) says he wants me to come up there really bad," he said.

Duncan is visiting Pittsburgh for its home game vs. Cincinnati Nov. 5, then will be at Duke in late December. But he doesn't yet know when, or where, he's remaining two officials will be.

"I'm planning to take all five," he said. "Then sit down with my family and decide what is best for me."

Duncan, who's from Charlotte, says he's got certain criteria that he's looking to find.

"Does it feel like I can be there for four years?" he said. "… Do they have a great coaching staff, a great football atmosphere? And academics is a big thing for me."
