Hawkeyes offer Nebraska DE

Nebraska defensive end Drew Ott had quite a day on Thursday. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Ott had just wrapped up a camp with the in-state Huskers, but it was the neighboring Iowa Hawkeyes that created a stir. After sharing two phone calls with the Iowa coaching staff during the course of the day, the Class of 2012 prospect found himself with his first major scholarship offer.

"Well, yesterday my coach told me to call Iowa so I could talk to their defensive line coach and get to know him a little," said Ott. "So I gave him a call and we had a good conversation. He said they were excited to see me at camp next week and I told him I would see him there."

"Then, about an hour later I got a call from my coach telling me that I needed call Iowa again," he continued. "So I called them back and they said they had talked about it and decided they wanted to offer me a scholarship right now."

Playing eight-man football at Giltner, Ott has racked up 537 career tackles so far in his three years as a starter. This past season, he had 136 tackles and two interceptions in leading his team to an 11-1 record. As a junior, Ott earned first team all-state honors in both football and basketball at Giltner.
