Barnes one-ups Fox

After what Mark Fox called a "hard-fought 68-59 win" against Arkansas State, the Bulldog head coach joked that he owed senior forward Chris Barnes had won a bet between the two.

Amazing what a pair of consecutive free throws can do.

"Chris Barnes was terrific today and as a matter of fact I've got to go run the (Sanford) Stadium steps because he made two free throws in a row." said Fox. "He really played like a senior and he was a big key for us; that's why I started him in the second half and he was a big part of the win."

Barnes scored in double figures for the first time this season with a season-high 12 points, two off his career high; shooting 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from the free throw line.

After the game Barnes admitted that things were coming easier to him Saturday afternoon.

"Things were coming easier today," Barnes said. "I was really just trying to have fun and help my team get a win."

Georgia gained a 20-point edge with 13 minutes left in the second half but saw it diminish to just seven points with a minute and a half left in the game giving the Red Wolves a chance to pull out the win.

Barnes admitted the Bulldogs still have some maturing to do.

"We really need to learn how to finish teams off and become more mature. When we get to the SEC part of the schedule we need to know how to finish games out."

Barnes admitted. "I think it's a focus thing; when we look up and see that we're up by 20 we start to get a little lackadaisical and start relieving our pressure on the team. We need to learn how to get these teams down and keep our foot on their throat."
