Buckeyes show early interest in Dillard
Ohio State already has landed verbal commitments from the state of Ohio's top junior running backs, but the Buckeyes know with over a year until signing day for the class of 2012 how important it is to keep the door open on other recruits.
That's why they've shown some interest in Danny Dillard, a 6-foot-2, 205-pounder from Venice, Fla.
"OSU is interested," Dillard said. "I talked to coach Taver Johnson. He said they were interested and to keep in touch with him, but I lost the number."
Dillard, who was verbally offered by Kentucky, also has heard from Auburn, Boston College, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, UCLA and Wisconsin, among others.
"I went to a couple of Florida games and observed the campus," he said. "I haven't taken any other visits yet."
As of now, Dillard said he considers Florida, Florida State and Ohio State among his favorites.
He hoped to visit Ohio State this fall, but those plans fell through.
"I really like their offense and running game. I like a school that runs a lot," he said. "I have to like the atmosphere while I'm there also."
Through 11 games of his junior season Dillard has rushed 158 times for 1,126 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. He also has three receiving scores.
"My strengths are my speed, strength and vision," he said.
Venice is 8-3 and plays Manatee on Friday in a second round playoff game. Manatee defeated Venice, 24-7, on Oct. 29 in a regular season game.
