Stansbury seeking improvement for second game

Mississippi State may have won its season opener last Friday 75-65 over Tennessee State but the victory was hardly impressive.

The Bulldogs struggled on both ends of the floor at times during the contest and will need a much better effort after a week layover tonight against Appalachian State.

"I think it's very obvious there's a lot of things we need to get better at," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "We've got to get so we can find ways for our point guard to get in that lane more and create some easy baskets. We're just not doing that near enough. We struggle to score in that paint. Elgin Bailey just has an unbelievable time moving and jumping right now. It's tough and we got to try and get him some easy baskets off penetration. He and Wendell Lewis both. We can't come down and struggle and depend on Ravern Johnson and Kodi Augustus every time. We got to get some more guys."

Johnson scored a career-high 32 points in the opener while Augustus added his third double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. First time starters Bailey, Riley Benock and Twany Beckham combined for only six points.
