Ballard finding success in the SEC

Vick Ballard chewed up plenty of yards and touchdowns last season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College earning All-American honors.

But Ballard was unsure if his success would continue at that rate as he made the jump into the Southeastern Conference at Mississippi State. Despite splitting time in the backfield Ballard has been one of the most productive backs in the entire country this year.

"The season is going great, better than I expected," Ballard said. "I really didn't have any expectations coming into the season. My approach was just to work as hard as I could and let everything work out for itself. It's turned out pretty good and turned out in my favor."

Ballard has appeared in all seven games rushing 78 times for 516 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also hauled in four passes for 45 yards and another score.

In the past four games Ballard's role has increased as he has earned the start in each of those contests. He has carried 55 times for 416 yards and seven touchdowns over that span.

"(More carries) gets me into a rhythm and I start seeing different things as I get the ball more," Ballard said.

Even though Ballard is finding success in the SEC, he admits that things are drastically different than what he saw at the junior college level.
