Big day in the D

Tomorrow between 11AM and 1-PM Sound Mind - Sound Body will be holding its Media Day in Detroit at the Youthville Center. The event will not only bring attention to Sound Mind-Sound Body program, which is set up to help youth make choices to help the find success, but it will also feature top recruits that have participated in the program making college choices.

The marquee event will be when top linebacker Ed Davis of Detroit Southeastern makes his college selection. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Davis has an impressive list of scholarship offers and will select between Michigan State, Michigan and Iowa. SpartanMag.com rates Davis the #7 player in the state of Michigan for the class of 2011.

Davis teamed with current Spartan William Gholston to terrorize opposing quarterback last year. This year Davis will be the one garnering all the headlines and don't be surprised if he makes a run at breaking Gholston's school record for sacks. Last year as a junior Davis accounted for 106 tackles and 15 sacks for the Jungaleers.

In addition defensive back prospect Valdez Showers of Madison Heights Madison High School is expected to narrow down his list of schools. Showers has double-digit scholarships on the table and is expected to cut his list to a manageable amount of 3-5 schools.

Another important aspect of the Sound Mind Sound Body Media Day is they will be holding a NCAA Eligibility and Recruiting 101 seminar for 2011 and 2012 prospects. In all, the event will be attended by over 30 local area athletes that have Division 1 scholarships.
