Pitt lands Rivals250 athlete
Bill Belton could have dragged the recruiting process on for a while and maximized the drama while enjoying more time in the spotlight, but he opted for another route.
The 5-foot-9, 191-pound four-star prospect from Atco (N.J.) Winslow Township verbally committed to Pitt on Friday, ending months of speculation over where he might end up.
The addition of Belton is huge for the Panthers, as the New Jersey prospect is ranked the No. 28 athlete in the nation and is an early member of the Rivals250. He had received offers from schools such as Florida, Oregon, Penn State, West Virginia, Wisconsin and a host of others prior to his decision.
It wasn't an easy choice, so what was it about Pitt that made Belton feel like it is the right place?
"Yes sir, it's true. I committed (to Pitt)," Belton confirmed on Friday afternoon.
"It feels like home. It just feels good. I got that feeling in my stomach and it hit me in the right place. My coach told me to go about things a certain way so I followed his instructions and that was the place for me."
Belton has already informed the Pitt coaching staff of his decision and, needless to say, they were excited to receive the news.
"I've talked to coach (Dave) Wannstedt, coach (Jeff) Hafley, coach (Tony) Wise and coach (Frank) Cignetti. Basically I've talked to all of them," Belton said. "I told them all I'm coming.
"I went up there for their spring game and I've been in contact with them this past week a lot. We've been talking about every day. It definitely feels like home.
"I went up there two times and it just feels like they're (the coaches) really down to earth."
Belton did say that he is a soft, and not a solid, verbal for the Panthers. However, he also said he does not plan on visiting other schools as he "doesn't think that would be right" after a commitment.
"Pitt is my school," he said. "I'm gonna try to get back up there this summer and then plan my official."
