Maiden keeping things even

Wilkinson County lineman James Maiden is quickly becoming one of the most sought after prospects in Mississippi.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound two-way standout already has six scholarship offers and will likely land several more before the process is finished.

"Recruiting is going good," Maiden said. "I've picked up one new offer from Alcorn State so I have six now. They are all still kind of even."

In addition to the Braves, Maiden also has scholarship offers from LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and USC.

While nearly every school is recruiting Maiden on the offensive line, one school covets him as a defensive tackle. Mississippi State defensive line coach Chris Wilson is recruiting Maiden to play under him.

"I'm talking to Coach Wilson a lot," Maiden said. "He's a cool dude. He's saying that he wants me to be a Bulldog. They are recruiting me as a defensive tackle. Just Mississippi State is recruiting me for defense."

But Maiden maintains that it does not matter to him which side of the ball he plays on at the next level.
