Stevens awaiting his first scholarship
One of Mississippi's top quarterback prospects for 2011 is still without an offer.
West Jones signal caller Ben Stevens is patiently awaiting his initial scholarship opportunity but has a summer full of camp stops scheduled in hopes of impressing college coaches.
"Recruiting is going good," Stevens said. "I didn't get a chance to talk to many coaches during the spring because I was at baseball and didn't get to practice. I just talked to (Mississippi State assistant) coach (Tony) Hughes. He was calling to check up on me. I've been talking to Ole Miss. I really haven't heard from Southern (Miss) in a while but they were talking to me. Arkansas State, Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Memphis and Louisiana-Lafayette are some more of the main ones."
Stevens plans to camp at Middle Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Ole Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Mississippi State this summer.
When Stevens makes his trip north to MSU he knows he will be under the watchful eye of quarterback guru Dan Mullen, who is now in his second season as the head coach of the Bulldogs.
"He knows what to look for in a quarterback obviously having three or four in the NFL right now," Stevens said of Mullen. "If he thinks I can play then I must not be too bad."
The six-foot, 182-pounder also showcased his skills in a day long event on the campus of Alabama two weeks ago. He participated in the Nike Football Camp in the morning followed immediately by the Nike Elite 11 Camp that afternoon.
