Baylor Offers Up-and-Coming Matthews

Over the last few weeks, Clear Springs athlete, Howard Matthews, has started to receive some major attention in recruiting circles. This past weekend, the former Seguin safety received an offer from Texas A&M on a visit and soon after received his second offer from another Big 12 power.

"Baylor offered me yesterday," Matthews said on Tuesday. "They has talked to my coaches before and when they finally saw my film, they told them they were offering me."

Last season, Matthews played seven games for Seguin until unforeseen events forced him to transfer to Clear Springs in League City near Galveston Bay.

"I love it," Matthews said of his new school. "I fit in with all the players. Their main focus is to win games and bring home a state championship. They all practice hard every single play. They're not just out there playing around. They're actually focused on getting better."

Though likely a safety prospect at the next level, Matthews will be playing on the offensive side of the ball for the Chargers.

"I'll most likely be starting at running back, but I might also be their slot receiver. I'll also play safety in some packages," Matthews said. "I'll probably play safety or linebacker in college. I actually played linebacker my whole life until I moved to safety my freshman year."
