Neuheisel on the first practice of spring
It was chilly first evening of spring ball, but for a first time out the players were energized and like all springs hope is eternal. There was something about the atmosphere that was different. Could it be the team has finally turned the corner?
The pace of the practice was good and for the most part consistent. One has to remember that this is spring ball and there is a lot of teaching moments. The following is UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel's press conference after practice.
Neuheisel: "It was outstanding. It was a blast to be out here. I think the architects of this rule that says no pads on the first day of spring are probably really, really bright people because had there been pads, I don't know if we would have made it to the second day. There was a lot of energy and a lot of people loving to be back out here, which is an encouraging sign so I am thrilled.
"Obviously lots of mistakes, lots of things that we have to get a lot better, but just to be back out here, coaching again is what we love to do and it is a blast when your players all love to be here. I look forward to analyzing the tape, see where we are and try to get better tomorrow and hopefully we will see as many of you out here tomorrow."
