Bell banking on a big year

Nick Bell came to Mississippi State as a two-star, 225-pound linebacker out of Bessemer, Ala. in 2008.

After redshirting his first year with the Bulldogs, Bell has packed on nearly 40 pounds to his 6-foot-3 frame and entered the spring as the starting right defensive end.

"I think I needed it because in high school I mostly played all at linebacker," Bell said. "I needed a year of experience just to watch the older guys and get into the mentality of being a d-lineman."

Bell appeared in all 12 games for MSU last season making a pair of starts. He was credited with 15 tackles (five solo, 10 assists), 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sack and two quarterback hurries.

"It felt good to get out there and compete in SEC ball," Bell said. "It's something that I've always wanted to do. It just felt real good."

Bell is just one of the many talented young defensive linemen on the Bulldogs roster. He feels that the depth along the line strengthens each one of them during practice.
