Future Spartans prepare for playoffs
The MHSSA just announced the playoff pairings for the state football tournament. Several future Spartans will be playing next weekend hoping to make it all the way to Ford Field. Spartanmag.com takes a quick look at some of the pairings for the future members of the Green and White.
Linebacker Max Bullough of Traverse City Saint Francis High School
Indian River Inland Lakes (6-3) 45.778 at Traverse City St Francis (9-0) 83.556
Defensive End William Gholston of Detroit Southeastern High School
Westland John Glenn (8-1) 96.778 at Detroit Southeastern (8-1) 107.333
Running Back Nick Hill of Chelsea High School
Chelsea (7-2) 78.778 at Carleton Airport (7-2) 80.444
Athlete Tony Lippett of Detroit Crockett High School
Highland Park (6-3) 68.056 at Detroit Crockett (8-1) 92.778
Gholston and his teammates will try and slowdown Jeremy Langford. Langford did not play last weekend, but has averaged over 200 yards rushing per contest this fall.
The Crockett vs. Highland Park match-up is one of most interesting of the 1st round. Highland Park is 6-3, but they played as tough a schedule as anyone in Michigan, including out of state power Archbishop Moeller (Marcus Rush)
Devin Gardner and Inkster got in at 5-3 with a big win on Friday. They have a tough match-up against Edsel Ford and could have Detroit MLK waiting for them.
Dior Mathis and Cass Tech qualified at 5-3. They have one of the toughest first round match-ups, going on the road to face the Tractors of Dearborn Fordson
Division 2 is loaded with traditional powerhouse programs. Lowell, Muskegon, Brother Rice, Warren DeLaSalle, Detroit MLK, Farmington Hills Harrison and Midland are all in this division.
