Brown Focused On Hoops Through Summer

By the time he's finished with his high school career there's a good chance that Memphis' Marlon Brown will have as good a working knowledge of the recruiting process as anyone who has been through it. The gifted Brown has been getting the royal treatment as a top-tier football prospect for more than a year now. This summer he's getting a chance to see how things look as a basketball recruit.

Brown (6-foot-5, 205 pounds), from Harding Academy, spends his summers playing basketball with the Memphis YOMCA program. While most of his five-star peers on the football side of the equation have been busy with camps, unofficial visits and offseason workouts, Brown has been traveling the country, hitting the glass, running the court and noticing a lot of college coaches with familiar colors at his games.

On the football field Brown is a game-breaking receiver with freakish size for the position. The kind of player that football coaches envision stretching the field and creating mismatches against opposing defenses. And the kind of guy they'll hold a scholarship for until the very last moment.

Rivals.com rates Brown as a five-star prospect, the No. 2 receiver in the nation and the No. 17 overall prospect in the Class of 2009.
