Kentucky preview

Mississippi State is in desperate need of their first Southeastern Conference victory today.

It just so happens that Kentucky is too.

Something will have to give on the bluegrass tonight at 6 p.m. CST as the Cats and Dogs get together for their annual meeting.

MSU and Kentucky have played every season since the league split into divisions in 1992. During that span the Bulldogs lead 11-8 but UK leads the overall series 21-17. The Wildcats also have the advantage in Lexington 13-6.

State has claimed the last two meetings with a 24-17 win in Starkville last year and a 31-24 victory at Commonwealth Stadium in 2009. In those two victories the Bulldogs have rushed for 562 yards in those two contests including Anthony Dixon setting the school's single game rushing record of 252 rushing yards.

MSU is 3-4 overall this season but 0-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off a heartbreaking 14-12 loss to South Carolina at home two weeks ago with sophomore quarterback Tyler Russell earning his first career start. State had a bye week to get ready for their matchup with the Wildcats.

Mississippi State enters today's game averaging 376.3 yards and 24 points per game. The Bulldogs have shown a balanced attack of 196.1 yards passing and running for another 180.1 yards.
