Alabama Preview

No. 17 Mississippi State will travel down Highway 82 to Tuscaloosa tonight for the 95th gridiron meeting with 11th ranked Alabama at 6:15 p.m.

The two teams come into the game with identical 7-2 records and the Bulldogs are riding a six-game winning streak.

MSU, who is 3-2 in the Southeastern Conference, has reeled off consecutive victories over Georgia, Alcorn State, Houston, Florida, UAB and Kentucky heading into their bye week. The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week, one of six teams that face Alabama coming off open dates.

The open date was anything but easy for the Bulldogs who endured the death of sophomore defensive end Nick Bell who lost his month long battle with brain cancer. State has also been one of the central characters in the saga of Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton.

Alabama has controlled the twin state rivalry between the two schools located just 90 miles apart. The Crimson Tide holds a 73-18-3 lead in the series including seven of the last nine games. They also sport a 39-9-1 record in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama has won 18-straight games at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Tide got the better of Mississippi State last season in Starkville 31-3. The game was scoreless after the first quarter before Alabama got its offense going and finished with 444 yards and also limited the Bulldogs to just 213 yards and forced three interceptions.
