This darkness has to give!

I did not think it was possible to have a less enjoyable holiday season than the one we had a year ago, but, despite how bad things were 12 months ago with the layoffs at YAHOO that led to major staff changes on this site, the combination of continuing economic concerns and the lingering coaching search may actually surpass the end of 2008.

I said just prior to New Years last year, "Thank goodness 2008 is gone," and I think we can all say the same for 2009.

I am leaving on Sunday to visit my grandmas. One is in hospice, and the other is not expected to make it another six months. I have gathered up the family, meaning the four kids, and we are heading out to see both one last time over the holidays.

Our family has similar stories since we have been here a long long time as well (my kids are 15th generation), but all that matters is we are simply Americans

I want to make sure my kids get to see both one last time. As someone who has lost three siblings, folks passing has lost some of its impact on me.

Happy Holidays to all.

Starting a new series today, it is called, my favorite posts. It is not about the quality of the post, but rather some quality smack. I begin the series with this one liner in response to another persons post today on the Dawgvent.

Your posts makes me wonder where your Mom got her drugs* - Dawgluvvr

Time to let the machine run itself

....

Let's all have a great season; we have had a lot of them over the years at UGASports. Enjoy the game we love, argue and fuss, but never lose sight of the fact that it is all in good fun and we should enjoy it as yet another bonus of living in this great land.

We have soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, civilians, and many others who have given up their seat to go off and do things nobody wants to, not even them.

That extra seat at the bar, seat on the plane to the game, two minutes earlier your buzzer lets you know your table is ready; think of them.

I know I will. I do every day, all day, and every night.

You do not have to be a combat veteran to understand this. Heck, you don't need to be a veteran at all. Do you really need to feel the shark's teeth to convince you that it would really really hurt?

No.

While you are cheering on the Bulldogs this fall, remember that Red and Black is one thing, but Red, White, and Blue is another, and somewhere someone has that Star Spangled Banner subdued in OD green on their shoulder wishing they could see the game too.

I will leave you with that ......

Usually a couple of weeks before spring. Kelly and I are going to make our best guess for the one on this site in the coming days, but the official one will probably not be out until a week or two before spring.
