Per his custom, Purdue head football coach Joe Tiller has awarded deserving walkons with scholarships.

This year, Tiller chose sophomore defensive tackle Jermaine Guynn, senior strong safety Pat Kohtz, senior wide receiver Chase Lecklider, senior strong safety Brian Mattaway, senior defensive tackle Dan McGowen, senior offensive guard Nick Raben and sophomore tight end Jerry Wasikowski.

Guynn, from Indianapolis, Ind., joined the Boilermakers last season and received the team's Verle H. Campbell Scout Team Award for defense. He started out at defensive end before moving to tackle. Guynn is a nutrition, health and fitness major.

Kohtz, from Frankfort, Ind., is in his fourth season on the team and playing his best football. He was slowed by injury earlier in his career. Kohtz is majoring in nuclear engineering.

Lecklider, from Indianapolis, Ind., is in his fourth season and last year saw his first action vs. Indiana on Nov. 20. He is an organizational leadership and supervision major.

Mattaway, from Philadelphia, is in his fourth season and has seen action in 19 games on special teams. He was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2002. Mattaway has 14 career tackles and recovered a fumble vs. Syracuse last season. Mattaway is a communication and selling and sales management dual major.

McGowen, from Denham, Ind., is in his fourth season and has played in 12 games as a reserve. He appeared in 10 games a year ago and had four tackles, including 2.0 for loss. McGowen recorded two tackles, including one for loss, vs. Arizona State in the 2004 Sun Bowl. He is majoring in physical education.

Raben, from Evansville, Ind., is in his fourth season and appeared in two games a year ago. He started out as a tight end before moving to offensive tackle and subsequently to guard. Raben is majoring in aviation administration technology.

Wasikowski, from Cudahy, Wis., joined the Boilermakers last season. He is an actuarial science major.

Tiller now has awarded 31 scholarships to walkons over the last nine years.
