GSU eyeing Bobo?
Mike Bobo a candidate to be the next head coach at Georgia Southern?JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Is Georgia offensive coordinator
According to FootballScoop.com and Bruce Feldman of CBSsports.com, that appears to be a possibility.
Monday night, FootballScoop.com tweeted that Bobo has already interviewed for the vacant position with the Eagles after former coach Jeff Monken left to become the new coach at Army. Meanwhile, Feldman tweeted that the Bulldog assistant will interview with the Eagles after the Gator Bowl.
Efforts to reach Bobo were not successful and Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity directed questions to Bulldog head coach Mark Richt.
"They wouldn't ask me," McGarity said. Typically, schools looking to hire an assistant from the staff of another will ask that team's head coach for permission.
Bobo just wrapped up his seventh year as Georgia's offensive coordinator and last March was given a new three-year contract and a raise that bumped his salary to $575,000 per year, according to documents released to UGASports.com last year.
Bobo isn't the only potential candidate for the Georgia Southern job with SEC ties.
According to Savannah TV station WJCL, the Eagles have already interviewed Vanderbilt co-defensive coordinator Brent Pry (Pry served as GSU's defensive coordinator in 2010), Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and Tennessee wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni. The station also said that Navy offensive coordinator Ivin Johnson was also scheduled to interview for the job.
