#9 Georgia Postgame Notes vs. #6 LSU - Sept. 28, 2013
*Another Historic Win Between The Hedges: Georgia's thrilling 44-41 victory over No. 6 LSU marked the first time in school history that the Bulldogs have posted two wins over top-10 teams in Sanford Stadium in the same season.
Earlier this year, Georgia beat No. 6 South Carolina here. Also today, Georgia extended its home winning streak to 15, the third longest in school history and best current streak in the SEC. Today was the 11th win over a top 10 team in Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs are now 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the SEC this year.
*Quick Hits: Senior QB Aaron Murray (20-for-34, 298 yards, 4 TD passes, 1 rushing) finished Georgia's first two touchdowns drives in the opening quarter 7-for-7 for 95 yards and two touchdowns. The Bulldogs drove 75 yards on eight plays to take a 7-0 lead at the 8:52 mark in the first quarter.
Murray was 5-for-5 for 58 yards and a touchdown on the drive. Murray connected with junior Michael Bennett for a 5-yard touchdown to cap the drive. This was Bennett's first touchdown of the year and 10th of his career. vOn the second scoring drive to tie the game at 14-all, Murray was 2-for-2 with 37 yards, including a 25-yard scoring strike to junior Chris Conley. This was also Conley's 10th career TD catch. He finished with five catches for 112 yards. Murray led the Bulldogs on a six-play, 75-yard drive for the go-ahead TD with 1:47 left today, capped by a 25-yard scoring strike to Justin Scott-Wesley.
*Murray Moving Up: Murray moved into the No. 2 spot in school history with career passing yardage with 11,429. David Greene holds the school and SEC records at 11,528. In total offense, Murray has 11,659, which is No. 2 in SEC history.
*Receivers Answering The Call: The Bulldog receivers combined for 20 catches for 298yards and four touchdowns. Junior FLK Chris Conley led the pack with 5 catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. This is Conley's third 100-yard game of his career.
Junior SE Michael Bennett tied his career high with two touchdowns on 3 catches for 38 yards. Justin Scott-Wesley snagged the eventual game-winner, a 25-yard strike from Murray with 1:47 left in the contest.
*Stalling The Run: Georgia held the Tigers to just 15 yards on the ground in the first half. LSU finished with 77 yards rushing after coming into the game averaging 221.0 rushing yards/game. Last week, the Bulldogs held North Texas to 7 yards on 25 carries. Junior DE Ray Drew and redshirt sophomore N Chris Mayes both tallied their first career sacks during the effort against the Tigers.
On the flipside, Georgia finished with 196 rushing yards as sophomore Keith Marshall had a career-high 20 attempts for 96 yards. He played the entire second half after sophomore Todd Gurley (8 attempts for 73 yards) went out with an ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return.
*Morgan Has Career Long: Sophomore PK Marshall Morgan connected on a career-long 55-yard field goal in the third quarter. Morgan also had a 24 and 38 yarder in the game. This is the longest FG for the Bulldogs since Blair Walsh drilled a 56 yarder vs. Coastal Carolina in 2011. Morgan is 4-for-5 on the year after missing a 52 yarder against North Texas.
*Points Off Turnovers: The Bulldogs have a minus-1 turnover margin on the year. Georgia has tallied 21 points on four opponent turnovers while opponents have scored 14 points off five Bulldog turnovers. Murray threw an interception at the 6:18 mark in the first quarter on the Georgia 33-yard line.
The Tigers converted it into a touchdown. In the third quarter, senior Connor Norman pounced on a fumble after Odell Beckham mishandled a punt. Murray hit Bennett for a 21-yard score on the next series.
*Tackles: Sophomore Josh Harvey-Clemons had a career-high 15 stops while freshman OLB Leonard Floyd had eight including one sack and two TFL.
*Starters: Freshman FS Quincy Mauger and Mayes got their first career starts for the Bulldogs. Both had four tackles apiece.
*Captains: Sophomore TB Todd Gurley, junior CB Damian Swann, junior ILB Kosta Vavlas and senior N Garrison Smith were captains on Saturday.
*Up Next: The Bulldogs travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to take on Tennessee (3-2, 0-1 SEC) on Oct. 5. Game time is TBA.
