Bulldog fans hoping to see wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell during Saturday's G-Day game are going to have to wait until the fall.
The junior from Valdosta will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday morning at St. Mary's hospital in Athens to repair a torn meniscus and will be lost for the rest of the spring after suffering the injury in last Saturday's scrimmage at Sanford Stadium.
According to UGA Director of Sports Medicine Ron Courson, Mitchell will miss the remainder of spring practice, but is expected to make a full recovering in time for preseason camp in August.
Last year, Mitchell was second on the team with 40 catches for 572 yards and averaged 22.5 yards on 16 kickoff returns.
He's the third Bulldog known to be injured in Saturday's workout. Backup wideout Justin Scott-Wesley was injured, believed to be after taking a hit from Tray Matthews, while cornerback Sheldon Dawson injured his hamstring the same day, and will also miss the rest of the spring. Scott-Wesley's status for the game is unknown.
